Announcing Weekly Wine Tastings
The Pentagoet Inn and Restaurant, a bed and breakfast in Castine, Maine announces the opening of “The Baron Pub and Wine Bar”. The opening party will be held Thursday, June 19th, from 5-6:30pm with a tasting of champagne and sparkling wines. This will be the first of the pub’s weekly wine tastings with sommelier Bill Zildjian . Bill and his expert knowledge of wine will be presenting themed tastings based on wine regions, food pairings, and the eccentric tastes of former heads of state. Join Bill for one glass or a flight of the evening's specials. Promises to be informative and fun.
Bill Zildjian, a longtime wine collector, recently completed the demanding four-term wine course at the Elizabeth Bishop Institute for Wine Studies at Boston University, where he studied under two Masters of Wine, Bill Nesto and Sandy Block, passing with Honors.
Affiliated with the distinguished Masters of Wine Trust in London, the course combines a rigorous survey of the world's wines and wine regions with intensive studies in viniculture and viticulture, as well as in blind-tasting and wine-and-food pairing. The BU course is a final academic prerequisite for MW candidates.
The BU Teachers are the only Masters of Wine in the Northeast US; an MW title represents the pinnacle of wine knowledge and there are only 300 MW's presently. The third faculty member at the BU course, Stacey Woods, is a Certified Wine Educator and is currently an MW candidate.
While the wine studies were intense and serious, Bill has kept his original collector's passion for wine, and hopes to pass that enthusiasm along to the Pentagoet's guests
