Acadia National Park offers many excellent trails of varying difficulty. One of the shorter trails still provides wonderful views over Mount Desert Island including Echo Lake. The Canada Cliffs and Beech Cliff Trails on the west side of the island combine for 2 miles of beautiful hiking. Many opportunities are available for photos as the trail meanders through forest and over ledges. Parking at Beech Hill Road offers the easiest access.

The area around Penobscot Bay is home to some wonderful natural areas. Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park, just across the bay from Castine, is a beautifully protected natural area and is home to some great hiking trails. The Summit Trail leads you up a short hill that overlooks Castine Harbor and Penobscot Bay, while the Iceworks Trail takes you out to a gorgeous fresh water pond seen in the photo. During your visit take the time to enjoy a picnic lunch at the sand beach at the end of Indian Bar Rd. We're lucky to have such a beautiful state park so close!

by Pentagoet Concierge - On July 27th, 2013, Castine held its first Plein Air Festival. This one day event was comprised of 35 juried artists painting stunning landscapes from all over our beautiful village of Castine. The event was a huge success and has led to the second annual Plein Air festival planned for July 26th, 2014. The juried artists will once again be capturing the essence of Castine through their artwork during the day, followed by a reception in the evening. Pictured here is local artist Josh Adam painting by the edge of the British Canal. Read more about the festival at the Castine Patriot.

Storytelling Can Change Your Life
Stories can transport you to different times and places; they can make you laugh or shed a tear; and they can draw entire communities together. Once upon a time (last September to be precise), Castine began hosting some of the best storytellers in the country for in-school classes, public performances and how-to workshops. The extravaganza continues and will culminate in a three-day festival entitled
Storytelling by the Sea August 16-18, 2013 featuring Tim Sample, Jennifer Armstrong, Oscar Mokeme and many more. Follow the storyteller icon below for more details about this year's programs and events.

This year’s Castine Classic Yacht Regatta sponsored by the Castine Yacht Club, will honor the classic Concordia class yachts. A magnificent fleet of Concordias will rendezvous in Castine to kick-off a month-long celebration marking the 75th Anniversary of these famed 39’10” and 41’ yachts. On Wednesday, July 31, notable examples will be on exhibition at the Castine Town Dock.
The Concordia yachts will be honored at a symposium on July 31 at 4PM. in Delano Auditorium, Maine Maritime Academy. This Concordia event follows on from Castine celebrations in the last two years honoring the great early 20th century classic designs from William Fife III of Firth of Clyde, Scotland, and Nathanael Herreshoff of Bristol, Rhode Island.
The fourteenth annual Castine Classic Yacht Race to Camden will set sail from the Castine harbor bell at 11:30 AM on August 1. This 20 nautical mile race, which feeds into the Camden to Brooklin race on August 2 and the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta on August 3, is expected to attract a magnificent fleet of Classic and Spirit of Tradition yachts, according to David Bicks and Bob Scott, chairmen of the Castine events.
